While the summer is winding down with school starting and the last of vacations, I can’t help but think of winter. I am a skier and attempt to get out on the mountain as much as my wallet allows. Recently, there have been some new exciting changes and announcements that are happening at our ski resorts this coming winter.
Snowbird is investing $35 million to modernize the Cliff Lodge, upgrade ticketing, and building a new lodge called the Summit that is at the top of the tram of Hidden Peak with views that will be hard to match.
Back in May, Deer Valley Ski Resort successfully closed on purchasing Solitude Resort. They plan to upgrade a few of the chairlifts with high speed quads , remodel the lodge, increase staff presence, and cut in a new ski run that they think will help with travel time to Honeycomb Canyon.
One of the largest announcements that came at the end of July was the merger of Park City and Canyons Mountain resort. They plan to rename the resort as “Park City” and will place the resort as the largest ski resort in the nation. The merger will now consist of 7,300 acres of skiable terrain for locals and tourists alike. Park City has a $50 million plan to upgrade and redesign much of the two resorts. From gondolas, new restaurants, and ski trails there is much to do by next winter. This will be a good move for business and Utah’s economy as it will increase the amount of out of state vacationers that will flock the resort.
It will be interesting to see what ski resorts locals will ride with these new improvements.
Where will you be skiing this winter?
