I am shopper by heart and was pretty ecstatic when I heard the news that South Towne Mall was getting a much needed face-lift. The retail property was built in 1986 and was purchased by new owners, Pacific Retail Capital Partners and Silverpeak Real Estate Partners in 2014. The mall is proposed to have $20 million in improvements and enhancements starting in August of this year. Gensler Associates is the architectural design firm in charge of creating the fresh new look for the shops at Southtowne. The design is urban, minimalist yet colorful, and has plenty of entertainment to add such as new restaurants and local retailers. The project is set to complete in the Fall of 2016. This seems like a much needed move to compete with the mostly finished renovations at Fashion Place Mall and the power house outdoor mall at City Creek. Slightly trite, but nonetheless the title of this blog seems appropriate right now with a soaring Salt Lake City industrial real estate market, and in the general economy as well. It is an interesting part of human nature how business confidence, deal prowess, financial well-being, and sense of security goes in cycles in our crazy world. My business partner and I attend 2 national SIOR conferences a year for some of the most seasoned and high performing industrial and office real estate brokers in the world. The last conference we attended this May was the first in years where EVERYONE we talked to was absolutely ecstatic about the state of commercial real estate. While it is impossible to predict how long these same folks will be singing praises, one thing we have learned is that everything financial is cyclical. A couple weeks ago the whole team decided to beat the heat by heading to lagoon. Highlights include riding wicked, Candace's tearful laughter on the spider, and floating the lazy river at Laguna Beach.
